«Niche Pulses and Sugar Containerization 2020»

International conference

20 October 2020
Novorossiysk, Russia
We are pleased to announce the Conference Niche Pulses and Sugar Containerization to be held on October 20, 2020 in Novorossiysk, Russia (Hilton Garden Inn Novorossiysk).

The subject of grain crops containerization is not something new. Press releases of companies have been increasingly featuring successfully launched projects related to grain logistics in containers. Particular interest in this topic has developed amid record-breaking crop yields in Russia in the last few years. For a number of objective reasons it will not be possible to turn such transportation into mainstream, however some grains are characterized by very high containerization potential. It is beyond argument that the industry is yearning for flexible solutions which would secure reliable logistics for the growing agricultural export.

Of particular relevance is container transportation of so-called 'niche' export-sought crops: safflower, flax, oilseeds, mustard, chick-peas, millet, rye, brewing barley, buckwheat and oats. For example, Russia has reached 100% of brewing barley overproduction but cannot export the surplus due to logistics issues. Export shipments of sugar in containers are no less promising. Volumes of sugar export deliveries during the latest agrarian season came to 901.2 thousand tons as of April 19, which is 7 times more than quantities reached in the previous season. These indicators are record-setting for Russia. In particular, this was made possible as a result of implementing new logistics schemes, as it is above the strength of any Russian sugar manufacturer to dispatch this cargo by shiploads. Therefore, in this case container transportation offers the greatest promise. Sea container shipments through Novorossiysk have commenced since last November (to Turkey, Israel, the Balkans, Republic of South Africa). For the first time in its history, Russia has launched container export through St. Petersburg since February. Also for the first time Russia is commencing container export through Temryuk starting from April. Apart from that, Russia has become number one in export of yeast and pellet beet pulp, export of which can exceed 1.4 million tons in 2019/20. This also presents significant potential for containerization.

Topics of the Conference Niche Pulses and Sugar Containerization will include:

  • Grains and sugar production and trade analysis: outcomes of 2019/20 marketing year, outlook for 2020/21 marketing year.
  • Trends in Russia's container market
  • Grain crops container logistics: specific features and challenges. Successful case studies

  • Measures of state support for exporters
