Freight volume handled by Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP) and across its stevedoring assets in January surged by 78.9% from the same period of 2010, to 12,864,800 tons, the Group’s press servi
The posted monthly volume statistics included 5,978,500 tons of cargo handled by Primorsk Trade Port Ltd, a new asset acquired by NCSP Group.
The Group’s container trade jumped by 2.33 times as much to 48,800 TEUs. Bulk cargo volume shrank by 23.6% to 746,900 tons. Handling of mineral fertilizer rose 20.3% to 205,300 tons, of raw sugar - by 24.3% to 120,600 tons. Grain exports plummeted by 97.2% to 17,600 tons (due to grain exports ban).
Transshipment of general cargo in January was down 24.6% to 696,800 tons, timber cargo volume slumped by 30.7% to 54,200 tons, ferrous metals - by 29.1% (516,600 tons). According to the NCSP, the decline in the cargo segment was largely due to political instability in North Africa and the Middle East, which are key importers of these goods. Montly volume of perishable goods slipped by 82.4% to 5,700 tons. Non-ferrous metals volume, in contrast, showed a 38.1-percent growth compared to January 2010, to 104,300 tons.
Liquid bulk soared as much as 115.7% to 11,017,500 tons thanks to Primorsk Trade Port’s export volumes. Petroleum products exports grew by 24% to 1,581,900 tons. Crude oil shipment leaped by 149.4% as much to 9,394,300 tons, including 5,505,500 tons handled at Oil Terminal of PTP and 3,888,800 tons - at Sheskharis Terminal of Novorossiysk port.
